SPEDPAC Donates iPads to McKelvie Intermediate School

SPEDPAC recently donated four iPads to the special education program at McKelvie Intermediate School through fundraising efforts and generous contributions from the community.

This new technology has already had a great impact for these students who now use the iPad as a medium to express their unique intelligence and learning capabilities, despite motor and speech/language difficulties. Teache...
rs have been particularly pleased and surprised by students who are able to manipulate letter tiles on the screen to spell words without verbal cueing. The iPad may help educators find other hidden abilities concealed inside a child's mind, yet unable to be shared with the world.

Dawna Cote, the integration teacher at McKelvie Intermediate School, who works with 5th grade students, writes, “Over the past several months I have read about many special needs students whose lives have changed because of the iPad. I never dreamed that it would also have the same impact for the students in my program. It has truly been like a magic wand that has shed some light into their unique ways of thinking. On behalf of my students, whom I believe would thank you if they could, we would like [SPEDPAC] to know that your contribution is appreciated. [SPEDPAC’s] generosities have enriched their lives, and in turn my own, and I am deeply grateful.
